Emery

Portrait Spotlight | Emery

This adorable baby girl came to me through a repeat client who wanted to do something extra special for her nephew and his wife.  This young couple tackled head-on the diagnosis that their baby would live with Downs Syndrome and that they would face challenges that the family had never dealt with before.  Through love and support they embraced Emery but God had a higher purpose for this little angel.   At five weeks old, Emery passed due to heart complications.

This young couple have been so strong and I could never imagine going through what they have had to endure.  The loss of such a young child is hard to understand but the message behind Emery and the story that has been told is nothing short of amazing.

As I sat down to begin this portrait, I wondered if I would be able to properly honor the story and memory of this special little girl.  I often reflect and pray that with each piece my talents will honor Him and bring a blessing to those who see it.  I can honestly say that this drawing took a life of its own.  I was merely the messenger.

Zombie Bill Murray

This was a commissioned piece that I finished recently.  Whether you are a zombie fan or not, you have to agree that this is a cool piece.  I was able to use reference photos and adapt the figure to add the zombie details.  Like my other work, the texture plays a key roll and adds depth and character to the subject matter.  Enjoy!

Tristan & Zane

These two little tykes are a hoot!  Meet Tristan & Zane everyone.   I think I'm going to have a ball with this one!!

I am continuing to add layers to this piece, building up the shadows and adding little bits of detail as I go.  Slowly, it's starting to pop off the page but there are plenty more layers to come! What an enjoyable way to spend a Sunday on a dreary day!!

I'm now adding layers to start bringing a three dimensional appearance to the portrait.  The little shadows and highlights to this piece make all the difference.  It's subtle but makes a portrait start to come alive!

I continue to dive deeper on the contours of Tristan's face.  I'm rotating the picture and trying to smooth out the shadows from every angle.  I'm capitalizing on the highlights by making the shadows deeper.  The effect makes this piece jump even further off the page.  I just want to pinch those cute little cheeks!!

Little Boy William

This one is ready to spray and I'm calling it done! What a perfect piece this one has been for me and my life right now. It's owner has been VERY patient with me during its completion. During the duration of this piece, I lost an uncle, I had pneumonia, endured one of the coldest winters we've seen in a long time, my husband lost both of his grandmothers, I got a promotion at my "other career" and changed positions. This piece has been my solace during all of this and I am so thankful to have this outlet! Thank you Marla Dunmire for being so patient with me!!!  P.S. -- I'll post a high quality scan of it soon!
